Getting started
How does Flashfolk work?
The host creates an event in the Flashfolk app and shares a QR code. Guests scan it and shoot on their phones. Photos stay hidden while they 'develop', then at the reveal the album opens to the host, and to every guest if the host allows it.
Do guests need to download an app or sign up?
No. Guests scan the QR and shoot straight away. They type a name and start shooting, with no download, account or password.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Guests can use any recent iPhone or Android phone, with nothing to install. The host app is coming to iPhone and Android.
Can I try it first?
Yes. Open flashfolk.com/try on your phone for a 5-shot roll that develops in 10 seconds. Your demo photos never leave your phone.
Shots and guests
How many shots does each guest get?
Up to 25. You can lower the limit for your event. If you want more, the Unlimited shots add-on (US$9.99) removes the limit, with a fair-use backstop of 999 per guest.
How many guests can join?
Free events take 5 guests. Paid plans go from 10 up to 2,000 guests, and guest packs add 10, 25 or 50 at a time. The host never counts toward the limit. For more than 2,000, see Business.
What counts as a guest?
Anyone who joins your event, except you. A guest takes a spot when they join. If you remove a guest who hasn't taken a photo yet, the spot frees up. Once they've shot, the spot stays theirs.
When can guests shoot?
Between the event's start and end times. Guests who scan early see a countdown. Events can run up to 14 days.
What if the venue has no signal?
Shots taken while the camera is open wait on the phone and upload when it reconnects, for up to 48 hours after the event ends.
Reveal, visibility and approval
When do the photos appear?
At the reveal. By default that's when the event ends. You can also pick a later time, up to 30 days after the end, or reveal instantly. Until then, guests see that their photos are developing.
Who can see the album?
By default, everyone who joined the event, plus you. You can make it host-only instead. There's no public link: people who weren't at the event can't open it.
Can I approve photos before anyone sees them?
Yes. Turn on approval and you review each photo as it develops. Only the ones you approve go into the album. Rejected photos sit in your trash for 7 days in case you change your mind.
Photos and downloads
How long are photos kept?
Free events: 30 days after the reveal. Paid events: 2 years after the reveal. After that, the photos are deleted, so download what you want to keep.
Can we download the photos?
Yes. Anyone who can see the album can save single photos or download the whole album in one go. On paid events, the host can also download full-resolution originals.
What does the film look do?
When a photo develops, Flashfolk gives it the same warm film look, so shots from different phones look like one roll. On paid events, the host also gets an unfiltered original.
Privacy and safety
What if someone posts something they shouldn't?
The host can reject or remove any photo or guest. Guests can report a photo, and Flashfolk reviews every report within 24 hours.
Are there age limits?
Hosts must be 18 or older. The guest camera is for ages 13 and up.
Plans and launch
Is it a subscription?
No. You pay once per event, and only if you need more than the free plan.
